WHO IS SOUTH CAROLINA STONE INTERIORS?

A Brief History

Our SC location of Stone Interiors has been in operation since 2001, however our family’s experience in the stone industry dates back to the 1970’s.  At that time, our founder, GK Naquin, was a partner in a New Orleans based company whose primary focus was the fabrication and installation of stone facades on high rise commercial buildings across the United States.  In 1997, his focus shifted to residential homeowners’ desires for the beauty of natural stone in their home’s design and construction, and the first Stone Interiors was founded in Loxley, Alabama.

Our Stone Interiors location in Gaston, SC was the second location to open under the leadership of GK’s son, Duane Naquin.  Out of our SC location, we service customers in the entire state of South Carolina and into bordering areas of North Carolina and Georgia.

Our Service Offering

While fabricating and installing stone countertops is our most popular service, we can also fabricate stone for such uses including fireplace surrounds, tub surrounds, shower walls, and furniture/table tops.  We have water jet equipment that can cut 3cm or smaller stone into almost any shape that you can imagine.  We have made American Flags, game tables, stone signs, and more.  So, if you have a unique project, please call us for a consultation and quote. We also supply and install tile.  While our most popular service is backsplash tile to complement countertop purchases, we can also supply and install tile for such areas as tub surrounds, showers, and floors.

If you are looking for a comprehensive offering, Stone Interiors also offers a selection of sinks, faucets, braces, and other accessories that customers may be looking to upgrade along with their new countertop or bath installation.  In the Columbia area, we can often even manage your full bath renovation project to include your tearout, new cabinets, plumbing supplies and installation, electrical needs, tile, etc.

The Story of Your Stone

Most stones have a long journey before they arrive at your installation.  Natural stone quarries are located across the world in areas such as Brazil, Spain, Turkey, India, and Italy.  There are also a few domestic quarries in the United States for materials such as Alabama White marble and Danby marble (Vermont).

In quarries, stone is excavated out of the ground in rectangular blocks, and these blocks are transported to a factory to be cut and polished into individual slabs.  When possible, we travel directly to the factories annually and personally select unique designs to add to our Stone Interiors collections.  We also buy from local distributors that have imported their own material collections from various overseas and domestic factories.

If quarried overseas, your stone has travelled on a container ship across the ocean to arrive at a domestic port.  It is then transported via truck directly to us or a local distributor.

How Do I Determine which Stone is right for my Project?

Our sales staff will ask you questions about your expectations.  Do you want your stone to look the same in 10 years as it does today?  Is it your preference to be able to set a hot pot or pan directly on your countertop?  Would you like to be able to cut food during meal preparation directly on your countertop?  Do you mind texture when you touch your material?  Do you like variation and natural character in the composition of your material or do you prefer more uniformity?  Answers to these questions help us determine a type of product that will best fulfill your unique expectations (granite, marble, engineered quartz, etc.).

Once we determine which product will best complement your needs, then our sales associate can assist you in further narrowing down options by color and pattern to help you find the design that best complements your vision for your room décor.

Our Commitment to the Industry

Our family is dedicated to maintaining safety standards and professional integrity in our business, and we work with the Natural Stone Institute to help promote those standards throughout the stone industry.

Since the early 2000’s, Duane and GK have been not only been members of the Natural Stone Institute, but they have also ensured that all of our locations earned NSI Accreditation.  Among other requirements, companies must complete examinations on safety regulations and installation standards, facility inspections, and demonstrate financial stability and consistent quality to receive this Accreditation.

In addition, Duane and GK have both traveled around the U.S. as educators and facility inspectors on behalf of the NSI including presentations at industry conferences such as Coverings and Stone Expo.  GK is a Past President of the NSI and a recipient of their Migliore Award for Lifetime Achievement.  Duane currently serves on the board of the NSI as Treasurer.
